[team sonic] don't hide it anymore
Starting text from here.
Inspired by the new music video for View.
". . .a virgin?" The girl's voice pauses, lilting a little at the end, just a tiny slip of surprise slipping into her tone.
Jinki blinks.
"I'm sorry?" he asks, trying to hint without actually voicing it that he's had a long day, his English was never Oxford and hers has a particular flavour by way of Marseille, or was it Milan? Things start to blur together, especially when he's tired.
"I said," the girl repeats, smiling to take away any implied sting, "you aren't a virgin, are you?" She gestures towards her chest, covered only in a red and white striped bikini top, white t-shirt still dangling from one arm, she just removed it for the camera a moment ago.
"Why do you ask?" Jinki asks, instead of saying yes or no. Idols can't afford to be careless.
"Don't admit, don't commit to anything," he remembers, the words repeated, pounded into his head until it feels like they're engraved into the soft tissues of his brain.
"You looked away," the girl explains, and then giggles a little. He can't tell if she's amused or nervous. You work in the industry too, he thinks, you've learned to hide your emotions, joke with your pain.
Jinki thinks about Kibum, lying in bed, rumpled sheets, face tracked with tears.
He thinks about someone else, soft skin, the gentle rounding curve of a hip, fingers on his shoulder, "Don't go."
He thinks about the rule. "Don't admit, don't commit."
"Don't you love me?" Kibum had asked, the answer he expected already creeping into the question.
"I don't know," Jinki had replied, yes, yes, yes! before escaping the harsh reality, buried in someone else.
I don't know why, he thinks, looking at the girl now, even though he has too many reasons, all tangled up in his mistakes.
"It just felt right," he lies, "for the music video." The omission sits heavy on his tongue, but she nods. She knows all about cameras too, and the lies that perpetuate on celluloid, a false history captured and recorded as truth.
