Oh Ansa this is just beautiful. The imagery in the words and the flow of syntax - pure poetry. These two lines I love especially:
Acid snow flakes drift down from the sky and land on the crumbling concrete of the city walls, tiny holes burning into the uneven surface.
and
The robots are at the outer walls now, washing over the barren rock and scarred earth like drops of angry water.
So lyrical ;;; and the desperation and desolation and that final image with the robots finding them. And I wonder was Yixing originally one of them?! Was he changed by love?
I can't believe I didn't reply to this???? anyway thank you so much for the comment *hugs* especially since it's a sad story ;;
I was kind of inspired by the idea of casshern SINS, the "special" robots vs the "commoners" so I kind of saw it as Yixing had never deteriorated to their level, precisely because he had someone to love and care for. There's a kind of power, in being able to take care of someone. To have someone to care for. I think in a way that was Chanyeol's biggest gift to Yixing.
I was also inspired by a book I read (I can't remember the title now) about the seinge of Constantinople. I have a wip actually, with vampires and siblings and stuff...I should get back to that ^^
Is that an anime? Casshern SINS sounds like something I need to check out! Also do you mean the vampire wip inspired by the Lucas Evans movie? Can't wait to read!
It's an amazing anime!!!!!!! I love it to pieces it's gorgeous and sad and wonderful and focuses on GENFIC bless bless bless there's casshern and his dog I first his name and the ringo the half human half robot baby miracle who travels with them on a search for the moon because casshern killed the moon at the order of breaking (?) boss and destroyed the universe - the beginning of the Ruin.
Actually it's a different wip - part of the original fic wip I cannibalized for my taohun exchange entry -
I'd be completely honest and say that this whole thing reminds me of vixx's error. D:
at first I thought that Chanyeol is human. Or Yixing is human. Just one of them is human, but then you described them as somebody made out of aluminum and steel and then I went ahhhh. This fic is sad, but the way you write it is beautiful. I rarely read science fiction/future fics because it scares me somehow, the idea of a future so dark. But the way you describe it and how Yixing is so desperate to protect Chanyeol from what has become of their city and how you described Chanyeol going to bed and (eventually dying). Yixing go to war with the other robots.
Robots can't cry, but Yixing quietly untangles himself from the bed, from the sheets, from Chanyeol, and opens the door to face the silver faces gleaming at him in the sharp light. this ending. T.T
I didn't have that in mind when I wrote it (I was thinking of casshern SINS and the seige of Constantinople) but now that you mention it - I can totally see that! Except instead of dystopian, it's more apocalyptic <3 love error by the way
I think that Yixing always knew that Chanyeol would die and that was okay, it's just the way things are. But he knows that without Chanyeol he'll have nothing to take care of, nothing that can ground his identity, keep him from deteriorating like the robot rabble outside the wall. So, like the protagonist in the movie the mission, rather than die hiding, he'll go out and make his last stand, (like the protagonist in cat's cradle by kurt vonnegut) thumbing his nose at god/fate/the universe. It's dark but it's light. He has agency ^^
I'm not a fan of apocalyptic/dystopian myself lol but I got this idea and had to write it ^^ I'm glad I could join!
Tbh I usually read fics only from aff, it's a rare occasion for me to reading in lj/fi fes/writer community forum (even I spazzing a lot). But i feel glad to came across this. It's well described. Poetic yet intriguing. Tysm for share this lovely piece of art.
